ICC to seek arrest warrants for Sudan’s Darfur war crimes
ICC prosecutor Karim Khan plans to seek arrest warrants for people linked to war crimes in Darfur, Sudan.
Speaking at a U.N. Security Council session, Khan highlighted famine, escalating conflict, and targeted violence against women and children in the region.
Khan described the evidence as strong and emphasized the priority of addressing gender-based violence.
He confirmed his office is preparing arrest warrant applications for alleged crimes in West Darfur, ensuring they have a realistic prospect of conviction.
The war between the Sudanese army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces since April 2023 has killed tens of thousands of people.
Both sides are accused of war crimes, including targeting civilians.
Khan urged compliance with international humanitarian law to end the suffering in Darfur, calling on all parties to prioritize humanity over political motives.
