Hindu right-winger spread Islamophobia, blame Muslims for train accident
NEW DELHI – Right-wing Hindus in India are trying to give communal spin to the train accident that killed at least 275 people in the eastern state of Odisha on Friday.
Social media run by Hindutva elements sought to falsely blame Muslims. They falsely claimed that the fatal accident occurred near a mosque.
They shared a drone image of the accident site in Odisha, which also showed a small building nearby, and claimed it was a mosque.
However, the fact-checking website AltNews later confirmed that the structure was a temple.
It pointed out that the temple is run by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness or Iskcon.
Odisha police warned that strict legal action will be taken against those who try to create communal disharmony by spreading rumors.
Three trains collided in the tragic accident that occurred in Odisha on Friday night, killing 275 people and injuring more than 1,000. So far, nearly 100 bodies have not been recovered.
