Hezbollah chief warns Cyprus against opening airports, bases to Israel
Beirut, Lebanon – AFP
Lebanon’s Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah on Wednesday warned Cyprus against opening its airports and bases to Israel in the event of total war with his armed movement.
“Opening Cypriot airports and bases to the Israeli enemy to target Lebanon would mean that the Cypriot government is part of the war, and the resistance will deal with it as part of the war,” Nasrallah said in a televised address.
The Mediterranean island is home to two British military bases including an airbase.
Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides denied his country’s involvement in the war and said it was “part of the solution”, pointing to its role in a maritime humanitarian corridor to Gaza “recognised by the entire international community”.
