Health sector in Idlib at risk of collapse amid reduced UN support
The reduction of United Nations support for healthcare institutions in northwestern Syria’s Idlib has put the region’s health sector at serious risk of collapse.
Dozens of hospitals and clinics in Idlib have been sustained through the support provided by intermediary organizations backed by the UN.
The UN’s World Health Organization (WHO) reduced its financial and logistical support to healthcare institutions in Idlib in early 2024.
In June, the number of hospitals and clinics no longer receiving financial or logistical aid in Idlib reached 100.
However, support from aid organizations in Gulf countries and various international institutions has allowed 60 healthcare facilities in Idlib to continue providing medical services.
