Hamas slams Israeli airstrike on Syria
GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) – Palestinian resistance group Hamas has condemned an Israeli airstrike that targeted the Damascus International Airport in southwestern Syria early Saturday.
The state news agency SANA said five Syrian soldiers were killed in the attack.
“This bombing was the latest of the Israeli aggression in the region,” Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem said in a statement.
He added that Hamas “stands by Syria in the face of this repeated aggression.”
Israeli officials generally refrain from commenting on attacks on Syrian territory.
Israel has been sporadically carrying out attacks against Iranian-backed groups and regime military positions in Syria since the eruption of the country’s civil war in 2011.
