Hamas infiltration ‘one of the classic failures of technology’: US military analyst
WASHINGTON, DC: A US military analyst has termed the infiltration of Hamas into Israel on Saturday “one of the classic failures of technology”.
Cedric Leighton, a retired US air force colonel, while talking to CNN said Hamas managed to infiltrate despite “all the surveillance techniques, the equipment, the cameras and the other devices that the Israelis used and there were other things that they were doing in terms of monitoring radio traffic, telephone traffic”.
He said Hamas leadership went back to what was done “in the 19th century — face to face meetings. They used couriers instead of using the telephone or the cell phone and that I think played a large role in doing this”.
Leighton said Hamas leadership “seemed to be very patient in terms of how they planned, how they carried it out”.

“We have to look at the fact that technological intelligence is not always the end all and be all that we have got used to,” he added.
