Gulf Cooperation Council discusses raising combat level of member states
RIYADH (AA) – Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) defense ministers discussed raising the combat level of member states’ forces on Tuesday in the face of “exceptional regional and international emergency circumstances.”
The 19th session of the Joint Defense Council of the Defense Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The meeting, chaired by Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, was attended by his counterparts from Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Oman.
According to a statement from Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense, Prince Khalid said the GCC is working to improve the military capacity of its armed forces in order to confront all threats and safeguard regional security.
The Kuwaiti army said the conference examined the recommendations of the Supreme Military Committee of the Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces of the GCC, the most recent regional and international developments, and the topic of enhancing the capacity of the armed forces of GCC member countries.
The Qatari Ministry of Defense said the ministers discussed “activating joint military cooperation and strengthening defense cooperation…and continuing to unify all efforts to support stability in the region.”
Oman’s official news agency ONA reported that the meeting discussed the issue of strengthening military cooperation and that Oman will host the next Defense Council meeting.
