Germany to see launch of first anti-Muslim racism reporting center
Center will document and report attacks targeting Muslims in the populous German state
DÜSSELDORF, Germany (MNTV) – In a historic move, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany’s most populous state, will open the country’s first anti-Muslim racism reporting center in the spring of 2025.
The center, named MEDAR, will serve as a dedicated space for documenting and reporting incidents of violence, discrimination, and other crimes targeting Muslims.
With over 1.7 million Muslims calling the state home, MEDAR aims to provide a crucial resource for addressing the growing concerns of anti-Muslim racism.
The initiative comes after three years of meticulous planning and preparations by the state government, signaling a significant step toward tackling discrimination and promoting inclusion.
MEDAR’s scope will extend beyond anti-Muslim incidents, also focusing on racist acts directed at non-Muslim foreigners, as well as other forms of hate-based violence.
The center is expected to open its doors in March or April 2025.
This new initiative follows North Rhine-Westphalia’s previous efforts to combat discrimination, such as the establishment of the Research and Information Center on Antisemitism in April 2022.
With the opening of MEDAR, the state is setting a precedent in addressing racial and religious intolerance across Germany.
