Germany reports growing anti-Muslim hate crimes amid rising Islamophobia
Germany recorded over 1,550 anti-Muslim hate crimes in 2024, marking a slight increase from previous year
BERLIN, Germany (MNTV) — Germany documented more than 1,550 anti-Muslim hate crimes in 2024, according to official data released by the Interior Ministry.
Between January and December, at least 54 mosques were targeted, and 53 individuals suffered injuries due to Islamophobic attacks.
The figures were disclosed in response to a parliamentary inquiry from opposition Left Party lawmaker Petra Pau.
Authorities recorded 1,554 anti-Muslim offenses last year, marking a slight increase from 1,536 in the previous year.
The incidents ranged from online harassment and threatening letters to disruptions of religious practices, physical violence, and property damage.
Home to nearly 5.5 million Muslims, Germany has the second-largest Muslim population in Western Europe after France.
In recent years, the country has experienced a surge in anti-Muslim sentiment and violence, fueled by far-right political movements, including the opposition party Alternative for Germany (AfD).
