Georgia judge rejects former Trump attorney’s bid to undo guilty plea in election interference case
A Georgia judge has denied former Donald Trump attorney Kenneth Chesebro’s attempt to overturn his guilty plea in the state’s 2020 election interference case.
Judge Scott McAfee ruled Chesebro’s motion “procedurally defective,” saying it was filed too late and lacked jurisdiction.
Chesebro, sentenced under the First Offender Act, had no final conviction, and the court emphasized the importance of judicial finality.
Chesebro pleaded guilty last year to conspiracy to commit filing false documents, securing a plea deal that dismissed six additional charges.
He was among 18 co-defendants, including Donald Trump, accused of attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
The indictment cited efforts to influence officials, harass workers, and obstruct investigations.
Chesebro argued the charge he admitted to had been dropped earlier, but the court dismissed this claim, reinforcing the validity of the plea deal.
