Georgia Governor Ousts Trump-Backed Candidate In Primary
On Tuesday, Republican voters delivered a stark repudiation of the former U.S. President Donald Trump’s “Big Lie” that the 2020 election was stolen from him.
They backed Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp for re-election by a huge margin over a candidate backed by Trump.
Trump used much of his political capital hand-picking David Perdue to run against Kemp for the GOP nomination.
Kemp became a target of Trump’s wrath for refusing to help overturn the 2020 election.
Perdue made Trump’s false claims about 2020 a centerpiece of his campaign.
But the former senator had to concede the race as the early count showed him trailing by almost 50 points less than 90 minutes after polls closed.
