Gaza death toll rises to 24 from Israeli attacks
JERUSALEM (AA) – At least 24 Palestinians have been killed in relentless Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip since Friday.
The death toll includes six children and two women, while 203 people have been injured in the Israeli attacks.
An explosion in the Jabalia refugee camp north of Gaza City killed four of six children after an explosion.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army has alleged on Twitter that the attacks are being carried out after a “misfire” from an Islamic Jihad rocket from the camp. The claim, however, has not been proven so far as the aerial assault on Gaza enters its third day.
“We did not conduct any activities in Jabaliya at the time of the event,” the Islamic Jihad resistance group maintains.
None of the other resistance groups in Palestine have claimed any responsibility for the misfired rocket.
Regardless, Israeli warplanes launched airstrikes in the area citing an “imminent threat of attack” by the Islamic Jihad group.
Tensions have risen high across the Israel-occupied Palestinian territories since August 1, when Israeli forces detained Bassam al-Saadi, a senior leader of Islamic Jihad, in a raid in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin.
