Gambian robotics engineer develops unmanned firefighting vehicle
BANJUL, Gambia (MNTV)- Captain Alhagie Ndongo of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), a distinguished robotics expert, has achieved a remarkable milestone with his latest innovation: an unmanned vehicle designed to combat and extinguish fires effectively.
The firefighting robotic vehicle was officially unveiled at the One Infantry Battalion, located at Yundum Barracks, the esteemed home of the Infantry, reports The Point, Gambia.
On this occasion, Captain Ndongo said that the military’s role extends far beyond defending the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity against external and internal threat. He said it is also about pioneering innovative technologies.
His groundbreaking inventions are designed to optimize resource utilization and enhance efficiency in military operations.
He expressed deep appreciation and heartfelt gratitude for the support provided by Colonel Abdoulie Mboob, of blessed memory, at the Headquarters of the Gambia National Army (GNA), as well as to the Chief of Defense Staff, Lieutenant General Mamat O.A. Cham, through the Commander of the GNA, for granting the essential approval for the robot’s launch. In his opening remarks, Commanding Officer of One Infantry Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Ambrose Dacosta, emphasized that “today is dedicated to honoring the remarkable accomplishments of Captain Alagie Ndongo”.
He noted that the innovation represents a pivotal milestone for the advancement of technology within the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) and all other security services collectively.
He praised Captain Ndongo for his brilliant innovation, highlighting that unmanned technological tools in the military significantly improve operational efficiency, minimize risks to personnel, and give armed forces a distinct advantage in intelligence gathering, surveillance, and various combat support needs.
Colonel Yero N.A. Jallow, speaking on behalf of the Commander of the Gambia National Army, Brigadier General Sait Njie, said that the introduction of the firefighting robot exemplifies the GAF’s commitment to technological advancement. He stressed the importance of investing in local innovation.
