Gambian group transforms pediatric care at national hospital
BANJUL, Gambia (MNTV)- The Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH), Gambia’s primary referral facility, has received a significant boost in its pediatric care capabilities, thanks to a state-of-the-art ward renovation sponsored by Cornerstone Group, a Gambian-owned company.
The newly unveiled Pediatric Surgical Unit is designed to enhance the environment for both young patients and healthcare professionals, marking a crucial step in improving the nation’s healthcare infrastructure, reports The Point, Gambia.
Cornerstone Group’s CEO, Alagie Sanyang, was lauded for his commitment to community welfare, particularly in the health sector. This project follows previous contributions, including the donation of solar panels to ensure uninterrupted electricity at the hospital. The renovated ward features 25 standard hospital beds, comprehensive medical supplies, and a dedicated play area for children, addressing both their physical and psychological needs.
The Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmadou Lamin Samateh, emphasized the vital role of a healthy population in national development and praised Cornerstone Group for its proactive support. “No nation can develop without active participation from its citizens,” he stated. Sanyang, in turn, highlighted the importance of quality healthcare and encouraged other Gambian businesses to contribute more to their communities. He also pledged further support, including assisting with the procurement of essential medical equipment.
Oley Faal, Executive Director of Cornerstone Group, expressed a personal passion for children’s health and reiterated the company’s commitment to giving back to the community. EFSTH’s Chief Medical Director, Mustapha Bittaye, acknowledged the transformative impact of the renovation and expressed gratitude for Sanyang’s continuous support.
