French Muslims immigrate to UK, Canada to avoid Islamophobia
A new book reveals that a number of French Muslims are leaving France for countries like the UK and Canada because of rising Islamophobia.
Co-author of “France, Loving It But Leaving It,” Olivier Esteves, connects the exodus to France’s political shift toward the far-right in recent years.
The book’s interviews and surveys of 1,000 respondents found a significant migration wave, driven by personal experiences of prejudice and exclusion.
The trend is described as a “brain drain,” and reflects the departure of skilled professionals seeking refuge from discrimination.
France’s secular policies prohibit religious symbols in public life.
As a result, many Muslims feel alienated, prompting them to leave.
Muslims gathered outside the Grand Mosque in Paris last month to voice their concerns about being made to feel like outsiders in their own country.
