French court rejects request to lift burkini ban at Beach
PARIS (AA) – A court in France has rejected a request to lift the controversial burkini ban on the beaches of Mandelieu-la-Napoule.
The burkini is a swimsuit that covers the entire body except for the face, hands, and feet.
The request of the Human Rights League France was rejected by the Administrative Court of Nice.
The court stated that the decision of the municipality was aimed at preventing a disturbance of public order.
In 2012, Mandelieu-la-Napoule was the first municipality to ban burkini swimwear on beaches.
The French Human Rights League went to court in June to overturn the ban.
Mandelieu-la-Napoule is a tourist resort along the Mediterranean Sea in southern France.
