France signals potential recognition of Palestinian statehood
France’s plan to recognize Palestine offers a rare beacon of hope amid Gaza genocide
PARIS (MNTV) – French President Emmanuel Macron has announced plans to formally recognize Palestine as a state, potentially as early as June.
Speaking to a French broadcaster, Macron emphasized that the move would reflect justice and fairness, not political expediency.
“This is not about appeasing anyone,” Macron said.
“It’s about doing what is fair.”
His statement coincided with preparations for a June conference co-hosted by France and Saudi Arabia, aiming to revive a two-state solution.
Macron expressed hope that recognizing Palestine could encourage states that have yet to acknowledge Israel to do so.
The announcement comes amidst Israel’s relentless bombardment of Gaza, following the collapse of a two-month ceasefire and failed negotiations with Hamas.
Gaza’s Health Ministry reports over 50,000 deaths since the genocide began, most of them women and children.
Israel’s blockade has halted the entry of food, water, and medical supplies, exacerbating Gaza’s humanitarian crisis.
France’s stance on Palestinian statehood marks a significant shift.
Despite historically supporting a two-state solution, Paris has long resisted formal recognition of Palestine, citing concerns over its impact on the peace process.
Macron’s comments follow his recent visit to a hospital in El Arish, Egypt, near Gaza’s border, where he witnessed firsthand the suffering of Palestinians.
“I want to believe in peace,” Macron remarked, decrying the dire conditions in Gaza.
“Since March 2, nothing is entering the Strip—no water, no food, no medicine—and the injured are left untreated.”
The potential recognition has sparked a backlash from Israel and its allies.
Israeli Foreign Affairs Minister Gideon Sa’ar called the move a “prize for terror” and accused France of undermining peace efforts.
France’s Jewish umbrella group, Crif, also condemned the decision, claiming it rewards Hamas while Israeli hostages remain captive.
For Palestinians, Macron’s announcement is a glimmer of hope in a bleak reality.
As international pressure mounts, recognition from France could signify a pivotal step toward justice and the acknowledgment of their right to sovereignty.
