Four soldiers killed in roadside bomb attack in southwest Pakistan
Attack comes amid growing militant violence across Pakistan, with 105 incidents and 228 deaths reported in March alone
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (MNTV) — A powerful roadside bomb killed four soldiers and wounded three others in the southwestern city of Quetta on Friday, in the latest deadly attack on security forces in Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province.
According to local police chief Naveed Ahmad, the blast struck a vehicle carrying security personnel as they were responding to an improvised explosive device (IED) planted in the area. The explosion occurred during an attempt to neutralize the device, causing severe casualties.
The attack claimed the lives of Subedar Shahzad Amin, Naib Subedar Abbas, Sepoy Khalil, and Sepoy Zahid.
The wounded—identified as Lance Naik Zafar, Lance Naik Farooq, and Sepoy Khurram Saleem—were taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the bombing, though suspicion has fallen on Baloch separatist groups that have waged a long-running insurgency in the region for years.
The Balochistan Liberation Army, one of the most active factions, was designated a terrorist organization by the United States in 2019.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack and paid tribute to the soldiers, calling them “martyrs” in the effort to restore peace in the country.
The bombing comes just one day after a similar roadside attack killed three people in Balochistan’s Kalat district.
That attack also remains unclaimed.
Balochistan has witnessed frequent attacks on security forces and infrastructure, often carried out by separatist militants demanding secession from Pakistan.
A recent report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) noted a sharp increase in militant violence across the country.
In March alone, Pakistan recorded 105 militant attacks—the highest monthly figure since November 2014—resulting in 228 deaths, including 73 security personnel and 67 civilians. Another 258 people were injured.
