Former FBI informant pleads guilty to lying about Hunter Biden
A former FBI informant has pleaded guilty to lying about a false bribery scheme involving President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden.
Alexander Smirnov admitted fabricating claims that Ukrainian energy company Burisma paid $5 million each to the Bidens, allegations that fueled the Republican-led impeachment inquiry.
Smirnov, who faces up to six years in prison, also pleaded guilty to tax evasion.
The case, led by Special Counsel David Weiss, highlights the impact of misinformation and foreign influence on political processes in the United States. Smirnov will be sentenced next month.
