Football-sized asteroid could hit earth in 2032
A massive asteroid is heading toward Earth. NASA says there’s a 1 in 43 chance it could hit our planet in 2032.
Named 2024 YR, the asteroid is the size of a football field.
If it enters Earth’s atmosphere, it could cause a massive explosion.
Scientists estimate the blast would equal eight megatons of TNT — 500 times more powerful than the atomic bomb the U.S. dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima in 1945.
The European Space Agency earlier gave it a 1.3% chance of hitting Earth on Dec. 22, 2032.
Though smaller than the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs, its impact could be devastating.
Experts say asteroid collisions have shaped Earth’s history and may have even influenced human evolution.
