Florida man pleads guilty to threatening CAIR Detroit office
A Florida man has pleaded guilty to leaving threatening voicemail messages targeting the Michigan chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Detroit.
Seventy-two-year-old Michael Shaprio from West Palm Beach admitted to sending violent threats through interstate communications.
These included death threats and Islamophobic remarks aimed at CAIR’s staff in six threatening voicemails.
He faces up to five years in prison when he is sentenced in March.
CAIR Michigan has welcomed the guilty plea, emphasizing such threats against minority communities will not be tolerated.
