FIFA to take legal advice on Palestinian call for Israel suspension
Bangkok, Thailand – AFP
FIFA will take independent legal advice on a call by the Palestinian FA to suspend its Israeli counterpart over events in Gaza, the world body’s president said Friday.
Gianni Infantino said FIFA would hold an extraordinary session of its ruling council before July 20 to review the legal analysis and decide how to proceed.
Earlier, the Palestinian football association on Friday called for the “immediate” suspension of Israel from FIFA.
“The ball is in your court,” Palestine Football Association head Jibril Rajoub told Infantino.
Israel has killed more than 35,000 Palestinians, more than half of them women and children, in Gaza since early October last year and is facing charges of genocide at the International Court of Justice.
It claims its aerial bombardment and ground offensive are aimed at eliminating Hamas which attacked it on October 7.
