Federal court reviews appeal alleging Biden’s role in Gaza genocide
A San Francisco court has initiated an expedited hearing for a case accusing the Biden administration of complicity in genocide in Gaza.
The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals began the hearing on Monday.
Palestinian plaintiffs, represented by the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR), argue that US officials have a legal obligation to prevent genocide.
The lawsuit was filed last November, and targets President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.
Despite the case initially being dismissed by US District Judge Jeffrey White, who acknowledged potential genocide, the appeal persists.
White ruled on Jan. 31 the case fell “outside the court’s limited jurisdiction” and rejected the suit on technical grounds.
The case contends that US support for Israel, including military aid, worsens the violence.
While international courts consider similar allegations, CCR emphasizes the urgency of halting American complicity to prevent more civilian casualties.
