Federal Aid for 9/11 Illness Sufferers Hits $10 Billion Mark
The federal government has given out more than $10 billion to people suffering from health conditions related to the 9/11 attacks, The New York Daily News reports.
The U.S. Department of Justice confirmed the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund had disbursed $10 billion in aid as of June 6.
Benjamin Chevat, executive director of 911 Health Watch, said so many responders and survivors were injured by the toxins at Ground Zero.
He added, they and many others will need support from the compensation fund and World Trade Center Health Program in coming years.
In 11 years, the fund has awarded grants to 45,000 first responders and survivors still suffering from Sept. 11-related illnesses.
