FBI arrests Muslim teenager in Philadelphia on terror charges
PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania – The FBI and Philadelphia law enforcement authorities have arrested a 17-year-old Muslim teenager who allegedly became radicalized on the Internet.
Police allege he purchased materials that could be used to build bombs. The suspect is said to have been associated with Katibat al Tawhid wal Jihad, a group close to Al-Qaeda.
He is charged with possession of weapons of mass destruction, criminal conspiracy, arson, attempting criminal mischief and recklessly endangering another person. Prosecutors will seek to charge the juvenile as an adult.
Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner said in a statement that “the charges we have filed against this individual represent the most serious alleged terrorist activity prosecuted in a Philadelphia County court in recent history.
