Former officials criticize Biden’s Palestine policy
A group of former United States government officials have criticized President Joe Biden’s support for Israel in the war on Gaza.
In a public letter, they have urged the Biden administration to adopt a new set of policies toward Palestine and Israel.
The 12 officials, who resigned over the last nine months protesting against the US policy, argue that US backing is contributing to Palestinian suffering.
They are labeling it a failure endangering national security.
Despite Biden’s calls for restraint, Washington continues military and diplomatic aid to Israel, prompting resignations and international criticism.
The officials condemn US complicity in Gaza’s humanitarian crisis, citing moral and legal violations.
They are also urging that Leahy Laws be enforced to halt aid to human rights violators and expand Gaza’s humanitarian aid.
The group says that rather than hold Israel responsible for its role in impeding humanitarian assistance, the US has cut off funding to the single largest provider of humanitarian assistance in Gaza, the UN agency for Palestinians.
Analysts say the protest underscores escalating global condemnation of Israel’s actions in Gaza, challenging America’s diplomatic stance and values abroad.
