Elon Musk threatens legal action against hate speech monitoring organization
WASHINGTON – Elon Musk, the CEO of X, formerly Twitter, is threatening legal action against an organization that monitors hate speech on the Internet.
The Center for Countering Digital Hate recently published research indicating that racists thrive on Musk’s platform.
It claimed that the platform does not take action against the majority of accounts that are reported for hate speech.
Musk’s lawyers accused the Center for Countering Digital Hate of making unsubstantiated claims to harm the microblogging platform.
He claimed that the organization is funded by competitors with an ulterior motive.
Previously, the organization had noted that Musk’s platform did not remove pro-Nazi and violence-glorifying posts from Twitter Blue subscribers, even after they were reported.
Posts such as “Hitler was right” and advocacy of violence against the LGBTQ community continued to be allowed.
The executive director of the Center for Countering Digital Hate, Imran Ahmed, said that Musk’s actions were an attempt to silence honest criticism.
He said his organization conducts independent research to combat negative stories.
