Elon Musk says Cybertruck explosion at Trump hotel linked to fireworks or bomb, not vehicle
WASHINGTON (AA) – Tesla CEO Elon Musk said Wednesday that an explosion involving a rented Cybertruck at Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas was caused by large fireworks or a bomb in the truck bed.
“We have now confirmed that the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb carried in the bed of the rented Cybertruck and is unrelated to the vehicle itself,” said Musk on X. “All vehicle telemetry was positive at the time of the explosion.”
One person has been confirmed dead after the Cybertruck exploded outside the hotel, police confirmed Wednesday.
Videos posted on social media appear to show the vehicle engulfed in an inferno amid multiple small explosions and the sound of what appear to be fireworks.
“The whole Tesla senior team is investigating this matter right now. Will post more information as soon as we learn anything,” Musk, a close ally of President-elect Donald Trump, said on X earlier, which he also owns. “We’ve never seen anything like this.”
Requests for comment to the local fire and police departments were not immediately returned.
ABC News reported that the incident is being investigated as a potential act of terrorism.
