Election Commission throws out Trump complaint against Washington post
The Federal Election Commission has dismissed a complaint filed by President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign against The Washington Post.
Trump’s team had accused the paper of making illegal contributions to Kamala Harris’ failed Democratic campaign.
They claimed the Post bought social media ads to boost critical news stories against Trump.
But the FEC voted unanimously to reject the allegations.
The Post’s lawyers called the accusations false and baseless.
The paper is owned by billionaire Jeff Bezos, who donated $1 million to Trump’s 2017 inauguration.
The FEC’s legal office said the Post was acting within its rights as a media outlet.
They said its coverage was protected under press freedom laws.
The commission ruled the case didn’t meet the threshold for further investigation.
The FEC found no wrongdoing by The Post.
