Egyptian firm profiting $2 million a day from Gaza exodus
An Egyptian company is profiting to the tune of $2 million per day from desperate Palestinians fleeing Israel’s war on Gaza.
An investigation by Middle East Eye reports Hala Consulting and Tourism Services holds a monopoly on transfer services at the Rafah crossing, currently the only exit for Palestinians in Gaza.
The company charges a minimum of $5,000 for adults and $2,500 for children.
In the last three months, it has amassed more than $118 million.
Profits doubled in April, with daily earnings of more than $2 million.
That is the same month in which more than 10,000 adults and nearly 3,000 children crossed.
