Education in Somalia tailored to include climate change awareness
Minister hails the initiative as legacy to future generations which would be better equipped to fight climate issues
MOGADISHU, Somalia (MNTV) – In a move aimed at combating climate change, Somalia has taken a significant step toward incorporating climate awareness into its education system.
The government’s decision to address environmental issues through education is a proactive response to the growing challenges posed by climate change.
This shift was officially marked by a ceremony in Mogadishu, where Deputy Prime Minister Abdisalan Abdi Ali presided over the event.
During his address, Mr. Abdi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prioritizing education, particularly in raising awareness about the effects of climate change, as reported by SONNA.
He also outlined the government’s strategic plans for the coming years, which include diversifying educational training for the youth and embedding climate awareness across the curriculum.
This initiative is seen as a vital step in solving real-world problems by equipping future generations with the necessary knowledge and skills.
“Recognizing the urgency of this matter, the government is committed to strengthening our national response to climate change,” said Mr. Abdi.
“We are currently preparing the necessary regulatory frameworks to ensure comprehensive education for students on the impacts of climate change,” he added.
The Climate Change Education Initiative underscores Somalia’s dedication to integrating environmental awareness into its educational system.
This is part of a broader national strategy to empower young people with the tools and knowledge needed to address the ongoing climate crisis, alongside traditional education.
By embedding climate change education into the curriculum, Somalia aims to empower future generations to play an active role in preserving the environment and contributing to efforts against climate change and environmental degradation.
