Dutch Police Disperse Planned Quran Burning Rally Of Islamophobic Group Pegida
Dutch police on Sunday prevented a planned demonstration of the far-right Islamophobic group Pegida, which sought to burn a copy of the Quran at The Hague.
This was a day after police also arrested a leader of the group and ended its planned Quran burning rally in the city Rotterdam before it started.
A small group of people attended that demonstration.
Police warned group members that they were using hate speech.
Dutch police told Anadolu Agency Edwin Wagensveld, head of Pegida Netherlands, ignored the warnings and continued his hate speech.
He was taken into custody while other members were dispersed.
Meanwhile, several Dutch Muslim communities held a counter-demonstration in the same square in Rotterdam.
