Dubai launches solar-powered rail bus at World Government Summit
Dubai takes significant leap in modern transportation by introducing innovative intra-city bus service
DUBAI, UAE (MNTV) — The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially launched the Rail Bus, an innovative and eco-friendly transport solution, at the World Government Summit in Dubai.
The announcement marks a significant step towards sustainable urban mobility in the emirate.
The Rail Bus is a lightweight, solar-powered rail car designed to operate on existing railway lines, offering a cost-effective and environmentally conscious alternative to traditional transport systems.
With a capacity of 40 passengers and an operational speed of 100 km/h, it enhances both efficiency and sustainability.
This project aligns with Dubai’s vision for smart and sustainable urban development, reinforcing the city’s commitment to innovative mobility solutions.
The Rail Bus system is designed to operate on a bridge equipped with solar panels, generating the electricity needed for its operation.
This feature makes it a sustainable and energy-efficient transport mode, reducing reliance on traditional power sources.
The project follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between RTA and Rail Bus Inc, a US-based company, in January 2023, during the Dubai International Project Management Forum (DIPMF).
Another MoU was signed with Urban-Mass Company, a UK-based firm, to explore the development of the Floc Duo Rail system — an advanced, driverless transport technology.
Abdul Mohsen Kalbat, CEO of RTA’s Rail Agency, emphasized the strategic importance of these partnerships in fostering global collaboration in transportation innovation.
He highlighted the Floc Duo Rail system’s efficiency, featuring adjustable unit lengths for peak and off-peak periods.
Hatim Ibrahim, CEO of Rail Bus Inc, noted that the partnership sets new benchmarks in sustainable mobility, tailored to Dubai’s dynamic infrastructure.
The Rail Bus initiative marks a significant leap towards a greener future, aligning with Dubai’s smart city vision and long-term sustainability goals.
