‘Do you want us to be a fellow member?’ — Palestinians demand UN membership
NEW YORK
Riyad Mansour, Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine, told the General Assembly on Monday that the Palestinians had waited long enough and deserved membership of the UN.
“I ask you: Does the UN membership want us to be their fellow member? Do you want us to be a fellow member of you as a member of the United Nations? The answer is obvious: A resounding yes. You want us to be a full member like you, seat with you. You would welcome that,” he said.
“How is it that the party colonizing and committing genocide can be a full member of these United Nations and the party committed to the rule of international law and just and lasting peace cannot. Haven’t we waited long enough? Suffered enough? Endured enough?” he asked rhetorically.
Gilad Erdan, Israeli ambassador to the UN, said: “Six months since the massacre there are no vigils. There are no condemnation of Hamas and the Security Council is busy, right now busy discussing the recognition of a ‘Palestinazi state’ instead of designating Hamas as a terror organization.”
