Displaced Yemeni children deprived of necessary vaccines
HAJJAH, YEMEN – FEBRUARY 23: Thousands of Yemeni children who were forcibly displaced due to the ongoing civil war between the government forces and the Iranian-backed Houthis have been deprived of health services, especially necessary vaccines such as polio, diphtheria, measles, and hepatitis-B.
Humanitarian aid cannot be delivered to many parts of the country due to the intensification of the conflicts between the sides and the strengthening of the Houthi siege.
Therefore, many children living in Hajj province die from lack of vaccinations in the war-torn Arab country.
According to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), unvaccinated children under the age of five have a very high risk of stroke.
A total of 11,450 children have not been vaccinated yet, the officials in the region said.
“Due to the ongoing crisis in the region, no action has been taken on the vaccine. If these vaccines are not provided, there would be a great disaster. The Yemeni Ministry of Health announced that the polio disease was over in 2006, but there is a serious group of children who are not vaccinated due to ongoing conflicts and migration flows,” Mohammed Al-Fuhaydi, a doctor in a medical center in the region said.
