Dhaka expo spotlights Bangladesh’s rising export sectors beyond garments
Two-day event connects local manufacturers with global buyers to boost diversification drive
DHAKA, Bangladesh (MNTV) — Bangladesh launched a major trade exposition in Dhaka on Thursday aimed at promoting its emerging export sectors beyond ready-made garments (RMG), as part of a broader push to diversify its economy and enhance global competitiveness.
The two-day Meet Bangladesh Exposition (MBX), organized by the Export Competitiveness for Jobs (EC4J) Project—a joint initiative between the Ministry of Commerce and the World Bank—brings together over 120 local exhibitors and more than 25 foreign buyers from countries including Singapore, Libya, Colombia, Algeria, the UAE, India, Malaysia, Bhutan, and the Maldives.
Held at the International Convention City Bashundhara, the event focuses on key sectors such as medical and personal protective equipment (MPPE), leather goods, footwear, plastics, and light engineering. Commerce Adviser SK Bashir Uddin inaugurated the exposition as chief guest.
Organizers said MBX offers a vital platform for Bangladeshi producers to directly engage with international buyers, investors, and industry leaders through exhibitions, factory visits, breakout sessions, and networking events.
The program also features workshops, cultural performances, and a gala dinner to promote business-to-business and policy-level dialogue.
The EC4J Project plays a strategic role in advancing Bangladesh’s export diversification agenda by enhancing the competitiveness of non-RMG sectors.
By reducing overreliance on garments, policymakers aim to expand the country’s export base, increase foreign earnings, and build resilience against global economic shocks.
MBX runs daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is expected to catalyze new trade linkages that position Bangladesh as a preferred sourcing destination in global value chains.
