Detained US woman released by Taliban in Afghanistan
ISTANBUL (AA) – Detained American citizen Faye Hall has been released by the Taliban in Afghanistan, former US envoy to Kabul Zalmay Khalilzad confirmed Saturday.
Hall, detained since February 2025 alongside two British nationals and their Afghan translator, is now under Qatar’s protection.
“Thank you, #Qatar, for your ongoing and steadfast partnership,” Khalilzad posted on X alongside a photo of the freed detainee.
President Donald Trump posted a video on Truth Social in which Hall thanked him.
“In this situation, I’m glad you’re the president,” Hall said in the video, noting that she voted for Trump twice.
Hall also drew attention to the women in prison in Afghanistan, saying that they are constantly asking her “when does Trump coming” to save them.
“Truly, they just treat you like their savior they’re waiting for you to come and set them free,” Hall said.
Trump shared the video with the caption “Thank you Faye – So honored with your words.”
She is the fourth US citizen released by the Taliban this year.
Hall’s release follows talks between US envoy Adam Boehler and Afghanistan’s interim Foreign Minister Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi, and coincides with Washington lifting a $10 million bounty on interim Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani and two others.
