Dengue cases cross 100,000 mark in Bangladesh
DHAKA, Bangladesh (AA) – Health authorities in Bangladesh have reported nine deaths due to mosquito-borne dengue fever while the number of cases has surpassed the 100,000 mark.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the dengue epidemic situation in Bangladesh as continuing to worsen, with the health ministry recording 2,197 new hospitalization cases across the country — most of them in the capital Dhaka.
Among the recent fatalities, 6 occurred in Dhaka city.
The overall death toll has now reached 485 since the beginning of this year. The majority of these casualties, numbering 363, were recorded in the capital, Dhaka.
Meanwhile, the total number of dengue cases has increased to 102,191. Among these cases, 49,328 were reported from Dhaka.
Out of the total admitted patients, 94,020 individuals have been discharged after receiving medical care.
Bangladesh recorded 281 deaths attributed to dengue last year, marking the second-highest toll since 2000, when the country began keeping records of the disease.
