Democrats condemn Trump ‘assassination attempt’
Top Democratic lawmakers joined Donald Trump’s Republican allies in condemning political violence after he was shot in an apparent assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Saturday.
Prayers and concerns for the former president poured in from his political allies and rivals.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jefferies posted statements to social media condemning violence.
“I am horrified by what happened at the Trump rally in Pennsylvania and relieved that former President Trump is safe,” Schumer said. “Political violence has no place in our country.”
Jefferies said his “thoughts and prayers” were with the former president. “I am thankful for the decisive law enforcement response. America is a democracy. Political violence of any kind is never acceptable,” he added.
