Death toll from explosion in Bangladesh rises to 19
DHAKA, Bangladesh (AA) – The death toll from Tuesday’s powerful blast at a commercial building in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka has risen to 19.
The blast also wounded more than 100 people, including dozens with critical injuries.
The rescue operation was still going on as a debris was piled up on the ground floor of the multi-storey building.
Speaking to Anadolu, Maj. Md Moshiour Rahman, the deputy director of the bomb disposal unit of the elite police force, said the cause of the explosion is yet to be ascertained.
“Our specialist team has confirmed that the explosion occurred in the basement of the building. It may be a sabotage or normal gas explosion or anything else,” Rahman said.
“Until the disposal of the debris, we can’t reach the basement to find out the cause of the blast,” he added.
