DC police tried to strangle protesters with their own keffiyeh
Nine months after a violent police response to a Free Palestine protest outside the Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington, DC, nine plaintiffs have filed a lawsuit.
Led by the Civil Rights Corps, it targets the Metropolitan Police and US Capitol Police.
The Nov. 15 protest, a candlelight vigil honoring Palestinian victims, saw demonstrators projecting peace messages onto the DNC building.
Allegations against police include strangling protesters with their own keffiyehs, physical and sexual assault, and the use of harmful chemicals.
The lawsuit draws parallels between these tactics and those employed by Israeli forces against Palestinian protesters, as noted by Sumayya Saleh from the Civil Rights Corps.
This legal action came ahead of a major protest at the DNC’s national convention in Chicago this week.
