Court sentences Texas Walmart shooting convict to 90 life terms
HOUSTON, United States (AA) – A defendant who killed 23 people at a Walmart store in Texas has been sentenced to 90 consecutive life terms.
The murders took place in 2019. The shooting also injured 22 others. Patrick Crusius،, 24, had pleaded guilty in February. It was one of the deadliest attacks on Latinos in recent U.S. history.
Prosecutors said Crusius committed the rampage with the sole intent of killing Mexicans and immigrants.
In an online posting immediately before the massacre, he reportedly professed his xenophobic and anti-white beliefs.
“You killed my father in such a cowardly way,” said Thomas Hoffman, whose father, Alexander, was murdered by Crusius. “He was not a racist like you.”
“You’re an ignorant coward and you deserve to suffer in jail and then burn in hell,” Hoffman continued during his statement at the trial. “You are an evil parasite that is nothing without a weapon.”
Crusius also faces the death penalty in another murder case in which he has pleaded not guilty. That trial is expected to take place in 2024 or 2025, according to the El Paso District Attorney’s Office.
