Conservative group targets ‘woke’ officers in military
The conservative American Accountability Foundation has urged Pete Hegseth to remove 20 high-ranking “woke” officers promoting diversity.
Hegseth has been nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to head the Pentagon. The move is believed to have caused significant unease among military leaders.
The list, disproportionately featuring female officers, has put a freeze on open discussions at the Pentagon about diversity.
The list, first reported by The New York Post, includes nine Air Force general officers, seven Navy admirals and four Army general officers.
Eight of those 20 are women even though only 17% of the military is female.
Tom Jones of the Foundation argues these officers, who have openly supported diversity and inclusion policies, are undermining military effectiveness.
Former Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel warns that targeting these officers could severely harm morale and focus within the ranks.
The controversy comes amid Hegseth’s contentious nomination process, overshadowed by personal allegations and his stance on diversity programs.
