Congressmen criticize Republican push to sanction ICC
Democratic lawmakers have criticised Republicans for prioritising sanctions against the International Criminal Court or ICC over urgent domestic crises.
Jim McGovern blasted the move on the House floor.
He said “100,000 people are fleeing a climate change-driven fire in California. Yet, Republicans are debating sanctions on the ICC for issuing arrest warrants against Israeli leaders.”
McGovern called the bill a waste of time, highlighting critical issues like 40 million hungry Americans.
He argued that while Israel has the right to defend itself, the situation in Gaza reflects vengeance, not security, noting that Israel has killed more than 45,000 people in Gaza.
McGovern called for a focus on humanity and real priorities amid growing domestic and international crises.
Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib slammed the bill as prioritizing Israel over U.S. crises like housing.
