Columbia law journal back online after editors reject censoring Palestine
The Columbia Law Review (CLR) has been reinstated online following a controversy over the censorship of an article discussing Palestine.
CLR’s board had taken the journal offline in response to the publication of the article titled “Toward Nakba as a Legal Concept.”
The board expressed concerns about the publication process.
But student editors voted to reject an offer to reinstate the website with a disclaimer appended to the article.
Citing principles of academic freedom, they emphasized the importance of not silencing scholarly discourse.
Sohum Pal, a CLR articles editor, highlighted the significance of students asserting their influence.
He said powerful legal scholarship cannot be silenced.
