Co-director of No Other Land wears Palestine-marked shoes at the Oscars
Basel Adra ensured the stories and traditions of his homeland continue to resonate on the global stage
LOS ANGELES, USA (MNTV) – Oscar winner film No Other Land co-director Basel Adra stepped onto the red carpet at the 96th Academy Awards with Palestinian heritage signed shoes.
The act marked a powerful message of solidarity and Palestinian cultural pride, resisting his homeland’s occupation by Israel.
Adra showcased his support for Palestine not only through his work but also through his choice of footwear.
Adra wore a pair of white trainers from Resolute RGL, a startup he co-founded in 2024 alongside Joseph Levin.
The brand collaborates with the women’s weaving cooperative of the Palestinian South Hebron Hills, a project led by Adra’s mother, Kifah Adra.
The trainers feature traditional Palestinian tatreez embroidery, meticulously hand-stitched onto the eyestay and heel, in shades of terracotta and sky blue against a white backdrop.
The shoes are crafted from recycled materials and are available in a cohesive palette of white, sky blue, and terracotta.
“This brand represents my people’s heritage and tradition,” Adra wrote on Instagram, sharing a link to the brand’s Kickstarter campaign.
The launch of the trainers coincides with their global debut at the Oscars, a strategic move to capture international attention.
The footwear has already garnered support from notable figures, including musician Peter Gabriel, who shared a photo of himself wearing the shoes.
The women’s weaving cooperative, established in 2005, was created to provide income for Palestinian women who lost their olive groves and livestock due to settler encroachment and violence.
Beyond economic support, the cooperative fosters community and preserves traditional Palestinian weaving and embroidery techniques.
With the global spotlight of the Oscars, Resolute RGL aims to secure the funding needed to scale production of its heritage-inspired footwear.
The brand not only offers a tangible connection to Palestinian culture but also provides an opportunity for individuals worldwide to express solidarity with Palestine through fashion.
Adra’s appearance at the Oscars, alongside colleagues Hamdan Ballal, Rachel Szor, and Yuval Abraham—several of whom wore Palestinian scarves and keffiyehs—highlighted the intersection of art, activism, and cultural preservation.
Through Resolute RGL, Adra is ensuring that the stories and traditions of his homeland continue to resonate on the global stage.
