CNN falsely accuses Rashida Tlaib
Calls for an apology from CNN have intensified after the network and its anchors falsely accused Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib of making an anti-semitic remark.
This followed an interview where Tlaib criticized Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel for prosecuting students protesting against Israel’s war on Gaza.
Detroit Metro Times reporter Steve Neavling confirmed that Tlaib never linked Nessel’s Jewish identity to her decisions in the case.
Critics say CNN anchors Jake Tapper and Dana Bash specifically perpetuated these inaccuracies.
Executive director of the Michigan branch of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) Dawud Walid, along with advocacy groups, says CNN has made a misstatement of fact that needs to be retracted if the network is to maintain its journalistic credibility.
Tapper later claimed that he “misspoke,” and Bash acknowledged that Tlaib did not mention Nessel’s religion.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer emphasized the importance of safe dissent on campuses while condemning the politicization of anti-semitism.
