China wants ‘consistent’ climate change policy as US pulls out of Paris pact
ISTANBUL (AA) – China wants a “consistent” approach to climate change as the US pulled out of the Paris agreement.
The world “must follow a consistent approach in addressing climate change and improve the consistency of environmental and climate policies,” Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang told the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
“China’s pursuing green transition is a long-term commitment rather than an act of expediency no matter how the international landscape may revolve,” said Ding.
Beijing’s reiteration of UN goals on climate comes as newly inaugurated US President Donald Trump pulled Washington out of the Paris agreement on climate which enshrines the UN’s climate objectives.
Ding said the international community should come “together to hasten the green energy transition.”
The World Economic Forum is holding its annual meeting in Davos until Friday.
The theme is “Collaboration for the Intelligent Age.”
