OSLO, Norway – A Uyghur woman has been arrested by Chinese security forces for complaining about her son’s long prison sentence.
The woman, named Rahile Jalalidin, was arrested in Urumqi, the capital of the Xinjiang Autonomous Region in China’s far northwest.
Her son, Zulyar Yasin, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for traveling to Türkiye in 2013. Chinese authorities claim he did not have permission to travel to Türkiye.
Yalalidin was angered by the sentence and repeatedly complained to authorities.
