Child among 11 Palestinians killed, dozens injured in Israeli shelling in Gaza
GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) – At least 11 Palestinians were killed and 30 others injured as Israeli forces targeted whatever remains of homes and civilian areas in central and northern Gaza Strip.
Medical sources at the Al-Awda Hospital in northern Gaza reported that five Palestinians were killed in an Israeli strike on a civilian gathering in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.
Mahmoud Bassal, the spokesperson for Gaza’s civil defense, said six Palestinians, including a child and a woman, were killed in strikes on Gaza City and the al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza.
Separately, witnesses said Israeli artillery targeted populated areas in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza, injuring dozens of civilians including children. At least 30 people were injured in the attack, according to medical sources.
Israel has pounded the Gaza Strip incessantly and indiscriminately since October 7, 2023.
Besides killing nearly 41,000 Palestinians since then, the military campaign has turned much of the enclave of 2.3 million people into ruins, leaving most civilians homeless and at risk of famine.
According to a study in July by The Lancet journal, the real number of casualties in Gaza since the onslaught began is alarmingly high, if those gone missing under the rubble and those dying of starvation or infectious diseases are included. The journal estimates the total number of casualties to be over 187,000- more than 8 percent of the total population of the battered enclave.
